Building a portfolio: fewer but better

The temptation is to show everything. But every weak piece lowers the viewer’s mental average. A strong portfolio is judged by its weakest work, not its best. So cut the weak ones, even the ones you love.

A portfolio should tell a story, not be a list. Group the work into series: portraits, animals, oils. When the viewer sees a pattern, they know you as an artist with a direction, not someone who tried a bit of everything.
